Motion Design Analysis

In this module we’ve learned to deconstruct different title animations to really get the gist of how they were created, what technical difficulties one could face while creating these and in what different ways you could solve these problems.
After the theoretical deconstruction, the practical construction of one of the title animations of our choice took place. But we didn’t just had to create the title animation from scratch, we also had to put in our own little twists and tweaks and make them personal, while still keeping essence of the original alive.
My Project Partner and I decided on recreating „Captain America The Winter Soldier“.
First off, we deconstructed the title animation even further and discussed some of the ways we could technically
realize the animation. We also decided on a Styleframe to define how the end product should look like and to split the animation into two parts, so that both of us got an equal amount of workload and could work independently on the project.
Now that all the initial questions had been clarified, we were able to start with the real work.
To create some references for Captain America and Black Widow we shot some raw video-footage of us wearing props and to also organically incorporate ourselves into the animation.
I animated the second half of the animation and therefore was responsible for everything you see, starting at 00:05-00:10sec.
00:05-00:06 „Black Widow aka Me“
00:06-00:08 „Man in a Suite“
To create the first sequence showing Black Widow, I made a Vector-Illustration of myself, representing her.
I worked with the puppet pin tool to animate slight movements.
To get the impression of being in a 3-dimensional room and work with different angles and camera pans, I used the camera tool.
To create the 3-dimensional wall, I created a sub composition consisting of different shape layers, whose position are being key framed successively, so that it looks like they’re building up and to also give the viewer a discrete direction to look at.
After I put the sub composition into the main composition, I sectioned it off using 5 masks, which I parented to each other, to then rotate them in the desired perspective.
I used a similar method to create the red lines.
Then I just added my Vector-Illustrations (Barney Stinson and Gaia) and meticiously worked on the prefect camera pans and the timing of all the sub compositions. This was the most time consuming part actually.
00:08-00:10 „Captain America-The Winter Soldier“
For this sequence I also worked with a camera, to create the ‚zooming out-effect‘. The rest is pretty self explanatory.
After my Project Partner and I finished our individual parts we just put the rendered videos into one final main video and added the original sound.
TADAAA! Our Interpretation of Captain America was thus born…enjoy!
