3D Design Workshop:
Digital Painting and Texturing

To improve our skills in creating our own textures, we were given the small task of designing a realistic wooden box using only Adobe Photoshop and Cinema4D.
To complete the assignment, we followed the YouTube tutorial playlist provided our lecturer.
We started creating digital paintings in Photoshop to create a realistic wood texture, lettering, metal fittings and displacement mappings. During the course of the tutorial, specular, normal, colour and displacement maps were created in Photoshop.
The wood texture was then mapped to a cube in Cinema4D. Displacement, normal, colour and specular maps were configured in the material channel to generate the required texture. Ambient Occlusion for the contact shadows and Global Illumination for the indirect lighting were set in the Cinema4D render settings.

Et voilà! The wooden box containing dynamite was created:
