Media Practice

In this module the task was clear. Creating a film.

There was no topic given for the film, so the first thing we did within the whole group of students, was brainstorming different film ideas. After that we formed different groups and each decided on a topic.
Our group agreed on creating a film with the topic „Landscape“.
We discussed different ideas, combined them and created a concept and a storyboard, to help visualize our ideas.
We quickly realized we didn’t just want to create a plain film consisting solely of drone-shots of pretty landscapes,
we wanted to create a capturing film with a real plot.

A plot about a woman who’s escaping.
Escaping the busy, loud and always demanding city into peaceful nature.

To support and represent the love of nature and to also make our film a wee bit more entertaining while watching, I suggested to incorporate the song „I Feel Love“ by, Donna Summer.

The Storyboard:

Another part of the film I suggested, was the „changing backgrounds“-sequence, which was simply a series of video recordings, with the same movement but different backgrounds, aligned perfectly to create the Illusion of a continuous movement. This video montage also simultaneously represent the different stages of the journey from being in the city, getting more into a kind of gravel/park-landscape and then finally being in nature itself.
You can have a look at this sequence from 00:28-00:32min in the final film.

The Journey:
City
Park
Nature

You can also see as the scenery changes, the saturation of the colors intensify.
The city seems grey, dull and lifeless at the beginning, representing the mood of the protagonist; as she begins her journey into nature, the intensity of the colors get more lively and vivid, showing the viewer that the protagonist also has a change of mood. This observation gets then crowned as the protagonist smiles at the camera at the end of her journey and laying down on the grass, enjoying birds chirping.

And now…the actual film!
ENJOY!
